Timing the day

from my perspective, this is one of the most important parts in the planning of a great wedding day

Keep it simple.

With that in mind I simply suggest coming into the planning of your timings with an understanding of what you would like to prioritise for the day. For most couples this is spending as much time with their friends and family as possible. But everyone is different, if you’re stuck on timing please don’t hesitate to call or email about it all.

Prioritise Your Priorities

Want to hang out with your friends at canapés? let’s do it. Want your ceremony to be at sunset? No problem. Does your venue have fairly strict timings to stick to? All gravy ~

Every wedding is different and by now we would have had the chance to lock in a rough timeline for the day but try and make sure you allocate enough time to hang with your nearest and dearest. If you want to join them for drinks in the afternoon before the reception, don’t be afraid to have an earlier ceremony. Yes the light wont be as glorious for the ceremony but (as above) prioritise your priorities :)

I don’t feel like there is any need to spend hours having photos, one of my favourite portrait sessions ever was 8 mins (all we the time had due to livestream issues).

We’ll get some absolute bangers for your wall or album (or insta) no matter what so nothing to worry about there.

Rough Guide

  • Prep: 30-60 mins each. This part of the day can vary a lot depending on how many people will be with you and what you would like to capture

  • Ceremony: 30-45 mins for civil ceremony, up to 90 mins for full mass.

  • Congratulations and family photos: 30 mins

  • Portrait session: 30-60 mins

  • Reception: varies a lot but around 2-5 hours is fairly normal. It’s great to capture the formalities and some party action so up until 9/10pm is usually spot on

Don’t Forget

  • Travel times in between venues and locations

  • Sunset (see link below)

  • We don’t need hours for a portrait session. 15-45 mins after the ceremony and 15-20 mins at sunset can be perfect

  • Make time to hang with just your partner. Everyone says the day goes insanely fast, so just chill with each other for a bit. So important to take the whole day in.

  • Receptions always (well almost always!) run late :)

  • Try and schedule Hair and makeup to finish up around when I arrive, this allows a bit of extra time incase they are running late.
